30' Northwest Aluminum Craft

Our Northwest is a true four season charter boat, allowing us to work and play comfortably on the water year-round. Custom built for us in 2021, this boats got the goods. She offers wonderful creature comforts, including covered interior seating for up to 8 guests, cabin heat, a marine head (toilet) forward, and an expansive dance floor.

Don’t be misled by her finer side—she’s a beast of a machine built to keep guests and guides safe on the water. Our vessel is designed with high gunnels, grab handles, and railings, offering a great sense of security while on deck.

We put new engines on this vessel every 3 years and keep it's systems in tip-top shape. For 2025, we installed a new set of twin 300HP, Mercury V8 outboards for redundancy and reliability. She’s got giddy-up.

Our Northwest is outfitted with a safety suite exceeding Transport Canada standards, including a 2023 Zodiac self-inflating life raft and a McMurdo EPIRB to offer added peace of mind. The electronics suite features top-of-the-line marine electronics from Simrad and Lowrance, including three head units, radar, Marine DSC, and autopilot.

30' Boston Whaler

These classic Whaler lines need no introduction. This unsinkable legend's 10-foot-wide, foam-filled hull has been a choice platform for the coast guard, police, and high-end lodges in Haida Gwaii for twenty-five years. She is very stable on the drift, making a wonderful working platform.

Our 30-foot Whaler received a recent major refit. In 2023, she received a new set of Mercury 250hp V8 outboards, a multi-screen Simrad electronics suite (including Halo 20+ radar and a 175HW CHIRP transducer), a full rewire, new pumps, and a Lewmar windlass. For 2024, new canvas, upholstery, leaning pads, raised back deck railings, and reworked seating for seven guests were added. A marine head (toilet) in the cuddy cabin rounds out the creature comforts of this classic Whaler hull.

Our Whaler is outfitted with a safety suite that meets or exceeds Transport Canada standards.

Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions about our fishing charters, tours, or booking process? Check out our frequently asked questions for quick and helpful answers to plan your perfect adventure.

Do I need a fishing license?

Yes! All guests are required to purchase a tidal water fishing license. A parent or guardian may obtain a license for a guest under the age of 16. Please click here to obtain your tidal water fishing license.

How much does a tidal water fishing license cost?

Licenses start at less than $10 for a day. For the most up-to-date information on BC Tidal Fishing Licenses and regulations, please click here to visit the government of Canada's recreational fishing website.

Am I guaranteed to catch fish?

We are confident in our ability to put our guests on fish, even when conditions are not ideal. At the end of the day, the ocean is not a grocery store, and any guarantee would be a farse. We only guide trips we expect to be productive. We run around 300 trips a year, through all four season, with a targeted catch landed for above 98% of trips.

What should I wear?

We recommend dressing for the weather; depending on the time of year, the requirements may vary. You can always pack layers and not wear them, but you can’t grab that sweater you left behind once you're out there. We always recommend wearing a pair of closed toed shoes. Scott is happy to provide seasonal recommendations during the booking process.

I am worried about seasickness. Is there anything I can do to prepare?

Most pharmacies offer seasickness aids, and we recommend consulting your pharmacist before your trip. Your guide can often suggest calm-water fishing options in the case of offshore swells.

Does the boat have bathrooms?

Yes, there is a head (toilet) forward on the port side of both boats. We advise guests to use the dock facilities before boarding.

Can I bring food or drinks?

Absolutely! We have a cooler specifically for our guests and encourage you to bring snacks.

Do I need fishing gear?

We provide all the gear and bait for your trip. We fish reels from Islander (TR3 and MR3), Shimano, Amundson, and Accurate. We run a selection of different rod styles and brands for trolling, mooching, and bottom fishing. Ucluelet is a gear dominant fishery for most of the year, with herring, anchovy, bellies, and squid used as bait when appropriate.

How do you keep guests safe on the water?

We provide more than the necessities for safety: a house-mounted Transport Canada-certified 8-person life raft with a hydrostatic release, a McMurdo EPIRB, a registered MMSI, and all the standard Transport Canada-mandated safety equipment.

Is there anything else I should bring?

We recommend bringing a cooler for your catch if you’re driving home (the fish processor can provide airplane-approved coolers for flying). A hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, a jacket, pants, a camera, and closed-toe shoes are all good ideas.

Is there a processor in town to package our catch?

Yes! Your guide will typically clean your catch. The processor in town can fillet, portion to your specifications, vacuum-pack, freeze, and hold your catch until you head home. They also provide salt flake ice and airplane-approved flight coolers for traveling with your processed catch.
