Owner and Guide
Scott Nijman

I have the privilege of inhabiting arguably one of the best offices found anywhere. Our local waters and rugged coastline are awe inspiring. Add one of the most consistent Chinook and Halibut fisheries on the west coast and Ucluelet is hard to beat.

Starting my career guiding the Northwestern tip of Canada, I slowly worked my way down the coast for a quick stop in Tofino, before settling in our little Town of Ucluelet. I've guided the waters surrounding the Pacific Rim since making the area home in 2013.

Logging over 1500 shifts on the water since beginning this journey in 2008, the ocean has taught and given me so much. As my life has evolved, my appreciation for time on the water has only grown. I enjoy sharing my passion for the fishery and marine environment with my guests and young family. When not chartering, I'm most likely to be found with my boys fishing and adventuring on the water year round.

Time is an invaluable asset in our world. Much preparation goes into every season, giving our trips a solid foundation to be successful. I am honoured by those that trust their time to me by stepping aboard.

Guide - Owen Rhodes

Born and raised in Ucluelet, I grew up running boats; fishing and helping my grandfather with his wildlife tours. I take pride in where I’m from and showing visitors the amazing environment I call home. Ucluelet is beautiful and has so many opportunities for adventure.

From a young age I knew I wanted to work on the water. In 2021 I finished my seamanship courses and started guiding fishing charters and whale watching tours. This is my third year guiding charters out of my home town, and I look forward to welcoming guests for a fun and productive season on the water. Rest assured, when you book a trip with me you will have a safe, knowledgeable and confident guide at the helm. I look forward to sharing the seas with you.

Guide - Luke Devenish

You're unlikely to find a guide more excited to take you fishing than this guy. Luke is 40, yet has the enthusiasm of an 8 year old on Christmas morning every day he gets up for charter. Luke's fun and positive personality cannot be denied.

Growing up, Luke spent his summers in Sooke on southern Vancouver Island. His family owned a boat, and inevitably Luke caught the fishing bug.

Post-college, Luke and his wife moved to Ucluelet in 2012. He took a job as a deckhand for the Canadian Princess Fishing Resort, which quickly side tracked Luke from any other career aspirations. He knew there was no place he would rather be than running a charter boat.

Luke guided in Ucluelet for a decade prior to moving on to a career and more conventional family life in the Comox Valley. Thankfully, he missed us and returned in 2024 to guide part-time through the season. We thank Sarah, Luke's wonderful wife for lending us Luke for parts of the summer.
